The Mining Systems Laboratory (MSL) is a multidisciplinary research group at Queen’s University. Our researchers have expertise in mining, mechanical, and electrical & computer engineering, and are passionate about field robotics, mechatronics, and systems engineering. MSL was founded in 2010 and focuses on the study and advancement of methods for perception, modelling, and control of modern mining equipment and mining processes. Recent project examples include robotic mapping and vehicle positioning R&D, robotic surveying and geotechnical, multi-vehicle coordination and truck dispatching, autonomous machines, and remote operator-assist systems. We also have a keen interest in extreme mining scenarios, including planetary exploration and mining. MSL researchers are mostly active in applied and multidisciplinary work with close industry collaboration.
