| Abstract: | The article explores Canadian and Ontarian perspectives on citizenship education and shows how citizenship education contributes to student awareness of the various dimensions of citizenship and the rights of individuals. First, we trace the origin of citizenship education and its importance to a healthy Canadian society. Second, we review the literature on citizenship education in the context of Manitoban, Quebec, and Ontarian ministry guidelines for secondary citizenship education curricula. The article ends with recommendations for future research in the area. |
