Bracken Health Sciences Library: CHEER Project

Permanent URI for this collection

This collection contains the files from the CHEER Project. The Centre for Health Electronic Education Resources (CHEER) opened in the fall of 2005.

Project Introduction

CHEER is planned to facilitate the Faculty of Health Sciences strategic vision and support the educational, research and clinical activities of its students, faculty and staff.

CHEER will be a fully integrated, interactive electronic education centre, which will occupy the whole public area on the main floor of the Bracken Health Sciences Library. It will be comprised of an e-Laboratory; large group seminar rooms and small group meeting spaces; videoconferencing facilities; computer pods; user-friendly reference and circulation service points as well as office space. The entire environment will be wireless, to allow students and faculty to use laptop computers, tablets or portable computing devices anywhere within the facility.

CHEER will serve as both a physical space and a virtual space for remote access to information resources by Queen's students, staff and faculty, as well as users in Southeastern Ontario who are affiliated with Bracken Health Sciences Library.

The Bracken Health Sciences Library (BHSL) at Queen's University has occupied part of 2 floors of Botterell Hall for the past 25 years, since the building opened in 1978. While the library was state-of-the-art in 1978, it is all too outdated in this age of electronic information proliferation. Planning is now underway for CHEER; the renovations are scheduled to be completed by September 2005.
