Man of Sorrows
MetadataShow full item record
This terracotta sculpture depicts Christ showing his wounds, in the traditional position of the Man of Sorrows, but Zacchi does not emphasize the suffering of Christ, instead making his body idealized and lovely, perhaps in imitation of Michelangelo's Vatican Pietà. Here, the body, though dead, seems animated by the graceful curve, and Christ smiles slightly. The sculpture is now housed in the Pinacoteca Civica, Volterra.
