Della Robbia Workshop
MetadataShow full item record
These glazed terracotta sculptures of the Angel Gabriel and the Annunciate Virgin currently flank another glazed terracotta work depicting God the Father adored by angels, which in turn frames an earlier fresco, thought to be a miraculous image. Andrea della Robbia made many of these Annunciation pairs in glazed terracotta, but here the glazes used on the Virgin and the use of unglazed terracotto for parts of the sculpture make this work more likely done by one of his sons. These works are housed in Sant Maria delle Grazie, Montepulciano. Photograph(s) licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License.
