This polychromed stucco relief of the Madonna and Child is found today in the Fondazione Salvatore Romano. On the base of the work are the words spoken by Gabriel to Mary at the Annunciation: "AVE MARIA GRATIA (PLENA)." The focus this work places on the emotional bond between the Virgin and Child was a common theme in Renaissance sculpture, its popularity likely linked to Donatello's numerous versions on the theme which were copied in a variety of materials, including marble, bronze, terracotta, and stucco.
