dc.description.abstractHydrogen production from water splitting provides a potential source for clean energy storage. However, this process requires catalysts that can oxidize water to provide a source of electrons for proton reduction. Various molecular catalysts have been investigated based on their high activity and tunability, but their solubility and limited stability restrict their use in practical applications. Here, we reported a heterogenized iridium-NHC catalyst that can drive water oxidation reaction by electricity directly. The catalyst was prepared by two steps: first the NHC was immobilized on a gold surface, followed by reacting with [IrCp*Cl2]2. This strategy provides a convenient way to systematically evaluate catalysts under optimized conditions, potentially leading to new insights into electrochemical water oxidation processes and water oxidation catalyst design.en_US
