Canada Millennium Scholarship Foundation

The Foundation was a private, autonomous corporation established by an Act of Parliament in 1998 with an endowment of $2.5billion from the federal government. The Foundation's mission was to provide post-secondary students with the educational opportunities they need to prepare themselves for the future. The Foundation had three objectives:

• To improve access to post-secondary education for all Canadians, especially those facing economic or social barriers
• To encourage a high level of student achievement and engagement in Canadian society
• To build a national alliance of organizations and individuals around a shared post-secondary agenda.

Beginning in January 2000 and continuing until 2009 the Foundation will have distributed approximately one million awards to students across Canada over its lifetime (2000-2009).

La Fondation canadienne des bourses d’études du millénaire était un organisme privé et indépendant qui a été créé en 1998 par une loi du Parlement, qui lui a confié la gestion de 2,5 milliards de dollars. Son mandat consisté à offrir aux étudiants les occasions dont ils ont besoin pour préparer leur avenir. La Fondation vise trois objectifs :

• Améliorer l’accès aux études postsecondaires de tous les Canadiens et, en particulier, de ceux qui rencontrent des obstacles économiques et sociaux.
• Susciter chez les étudiants un degré élevé de réussite et d’engagement au sein de la société canadienne.
• Former au niveau national une alliance d’organisations et de personnes fondée sur une action concertée dans le domaine de l’éducation postsecondaire.

Entre janvier 2000 et la fin de l’année 2009, la Fondation aura distribué environ un million de bourses à des étudiants de toutes les régions du Canada.
