Abstract

This carved bas-relief depiction of God the Father hangs in the last chapel on the left of the central nave of San Pietro Caveoso in Matera, above the 13th century baptismal font. God the Father has a triangular halo, symbolizing the unity of the Holy Trinity. God holds an orb in his left hand, while his right hand is raised in the sign of a blessing. Below, the head of Christ is framed by carved gold-gilded decorative flourishes. Photograph(s) licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License.
