Abstract

This statue of St. Nicholas, for whom the Church of San Nicola in Mola di Bari is named, sits in the centre of a trio of sculptures in the apse of the choir. The relics of St. Nicholas are located nearby in the Basilica of St. Nicholas in Bari. St. Nicholas, a bishop of the early Christian church in the 4th century, is shown here in gold-gilded bishop's attire. The statues on either side of him are of St. John the Baptist, on the left, and St. Philip Neri on the right. This wooden sculpture was made in the seventeenth century by an unknown artist.
