Abstract
Above the main altar of Santa Maria in Vallicella (also known as the Chiesa Nuova) in Rome, is a polychrome wood crucifix attributed to the French sculptor Guillaume Berthelot (c. 1580–1648) who worked in Rome in the early seventeenth century. The altar was completed in 1608. It is unclear whether the crucifix was made for this location or placed here later.
The crucifix is well preserved.
