Abstract
These lesson plans are designed for a grade ten academic history class. The expectation is from the 2013 Canadian and World Studies Ontario Curriculum document C.2 “Communities, Conflict and Cooperation”. The unit is designed around four questions: Who is Adolf Hitler? What messages did Canada put forth during World War Two? How have the lives of women changed and/or stayed the same since World War 2? and, In what ways do we see events during this period paralleling with Canadians’ views on human rights today? Each lesson is designed around the six historical thinking concepts and challenge students to continually relate the past to the present in means of establishing a strong understanding of how historical events, decisions, policies and movements still affect Western societies today. Moreover, each lesson exemplifies differentiated learning as the lessons encourage collaboration and independent work so that students are provided with a variety of opportunities to express and show their understanding of the concepts being taught in the lessons.
