Abstract
This 17th-century wooden statue of St. John the Baptist is one of three located the apse choir behind the main altar of the Church of San Nicola in Mola di Bari. St. John the Baptist is on the left of the trio of statues, and is positioned inward as if to address the centre statue of St. Nicholas of Bari. His cloak is gold-gilded, but his distinctive fur robes show through underneath. A banner hanging from his left arm reads ""Ecce Agnus Dei"" (Behold the Lamb of God), a phrase St. John the Baptist used with reference to Jesus. A lamb is also placed with a cross upon the book placed in St. John the Baptist's left hand. Photograph(s) licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License.
