Abstract
This report develops a series of urban design guidelines, policy changes, and recommendations for intensification along a segment of a suburban arterial road, Eglinton Avenue West, in Toronto, Ontario to foster increased transit usage and pedestrian activity in anticipation of Phase II of the planned Eglinton Crosstown Light Rail Transit line. Existing conditions in and near the study area at time of writing are assessed, while two examples of successful transit-oriented developments are used as case studies to develop recommendations for Eglinton Avenue West. Proposals are then evaluated using a framework developed by the Transportation Research Board before final conclusions are drawn.
