Abstract
This wooden crucifix hangs in the Chapel of the Blessed Sacrament on the right side of the main altar of the Cathedral Lecce. The work has been attributed to Placido Buffelli, a successful sculptor in the region in the seventeenth-century. The emphasis on pathos of the suffering body and the head lolling up in ecstatic abandon are typical of the emotive crucifixes of the period.
