Abstract
This wooden relief, made for the ceiling of Sainta Maria della Grazia in Lecce, was photographed in 2019, when it was displayed at ground level in church, during restoration. Unusually, Mary is crowned Queen of Heaven by all three members of the Trinity: God the Father, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit (represented by a dove). The high relief of the main figures and the crown make the scene legible from the floor below, as does the partly preserved polychromy and gilding. This ceremonial scene, set in a cloudy Heaven with cherub heads, is enlivened by by the twisting poses of the figures. The artist, Vespasiano Genuino, also made the relief of the Immaculate Conception and the Crucifix for the same church.
