Graduate Theses, Dissertations and Projects
This community is a joint endeavour of the School of Graduate Studies and Research and the Library to make available Queen's University graduate theses and projects in electronic form via the university's digital repository, QSpace.
Depositing their theses, dissertations and graduate projects in QSpace, offers Queen's graduate students timely, broad exposure of their research to other researchers, students and prospective students.
Graduate Projects. Students who submit a research project and master's essays in fulfillment of their degree requirements, instead of thesis, deposit their projects in the Graduate Projects Collection.
QSpace also offers an opportunity to preserve supplementary material that may currently become lost in paper format, such as data sets, images, performances, etc.
For more information on SGSR thesis requirements, please see Completing Your Degree on the SGS website.

SPATIAL DECLUSTERING OF ZIRCON DATA INDICATE RAPID ARCHEAN CRUSTAL GROWTH AND NEOPROTEROZOIC PLATE TECTONIC EQUILIBRIUM
The geochemical information stored in mineral zircon makes it widely used to document the formation and evolution of the continental crust. The physiochemical resilience of zircon enables precise isotopic dating even in ... -
DEFINITION OF GEOLOGICAL DOMAINS WITH AN ENSEMBLE IMPLEMENTATION OF SUPPORT VECTOR CLASSIFICATION
Building a resource model can be a challenging process because of the complex nature of geology. Employing limited information to build the resource model inevitably gives rise to uncertainties, and therefore uncertainty ... -
ACT (like you know what you're doing) Fostering Engagement and Motivation in Language Learners through Drama-Based Pedagogy
(2022-08-04)This guide considers the complementary nature of a Communicative Language Approach (CLT) and Drama-based Instruction (DBI), within the framework of Self-Determination Theory (SDT), for meaningful and effective learning ... -
Electrophysiology of memory consolidation and epileptogenesis in the primate mesial temporal lobe. Effects of focal seizures with impaired awareness
Epilepsy is a disorder characterized by unprovoked, recurrent seizures and affects approximately 350,000 Canadians. A third of this population have seizures that are refractory. This leaves over 100,000 people with ... -
Simulations and Observations of Galaxies Constrained through Scaling Relations
Understanding galaxy formation and evolution requires robust comparisons of observations and simulations of galaxies. This thesis contrasts rich observations of galaxies with simulations (hydrodynamical and semi-analytical ... -
The Neuromechanical Mechanisms of Exertional Dyspnea Across the Continuum of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) Severity
Rationale: Patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) have burdensome exertional dyspnea (breathlessness) during exercise, which is associated with an elevated inspiratory neural drive (IND). The neurophysiologic ... -
Dynamics of Clonal Hematopoiesis of Indeterminate Potential and Clinical Outcomes Following Chemotherapy in Lymphoma Patients
Clonal hematopoiesis of indeterminate potential (CHIP) is a potentially premalignant condition of aging that arises upon the expansion of somatically mutated hematopoietic stem/progenitor cells in hematological malignancy-free ... -
Numerical Study of Detonation Propagation in a Nonuniform Hydrogen-Oxygen Layer Bounded by an Inert Gas
This numerical study investigates the propagation failure and limits of a detonation through stoichiometric hydrogen-oxygen layer stratified above an inert gas with a diffuse interface at atmospheric pressure. The study ... -
Development of Two Novel Families of Platinum(Ii) Coordination Complexes for Nucleic Acid Recognition
Nucleic acids can adopt shapes other than the widely recognized double helix duplex form of DNA. In fact, they can also self-assemble into alternative higher order architectures, such as guanine quadruplexes (G4s). These ... -
An Examination of Watershed Planning and Headwaters Bioregionalism: The Case of the Oak Ridges Moraine, Ontario
(2022-08-02)The Oak Ridges Moraine (ORM) is an irregular ridge, stretching 160 kilometres from the Niagara Escarpment in the west to the Trent River in the east. The Moraine contains the headwaters of more than 65 watercourses that ... -
Assessing Soft-Embalmed Cadavers as a Biological Hazard
(2020-12)At Queen's University Department of Biomedical and Molecular Sciences, as is the case at many Canadian institutions, three primary methods are used to generate three distinct cadaver types for human anatomical education: ... -
Investigating the therapeutic potential of cannabidiol for Alzheimer’s disease: Using Caenorhabditis elegans that express the amyloid-beta protein
Roughly 55 million people worldwide suffer from dementia, and its prevalence is predicted to increase to about 139 million by 2050. Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is the most common form of dementia, accounting for 60-70% of ... -
From Military to Civilian Primary Care: A Study of Veteran Transition
Background: Military-to-civilian transition (MCT) is generally understood as the process of leaving military service and transitioning to civilian life. Each year, approximately 5000 Regular Force Canadian Armed Forces ... -
A Critical Laboratory Investigation of Multi-Stage Direct Shear Testing Procedures on Rock Joints Using Synthetic Replica Specimens
Direct shear testing is a common laboratory method used to define the geomechanical parameters of rock fractures for numerical inputs and rock engineering design. Of the standardized procedures, multi-stage direct shear ... -
Racializing Sexual Response: The Role of Identification and Racial Attitudes on Black and White Women’s Responses to Race Congruent and Incongruent Sexual Stimuli
Identification, or taking the actor’s perspective in a sexual film, is a strong predictor of women’s self-reported sexual arousal, and similarity between the viewer and actors in a film, such as similarity in race, is ... -

Genomic evidence of long-term asexuality at the northern range limit of wetland plant, Decodon verticillatus (Lythraceae)
Many plant species shift from sexual to asexual reproduction at geographic range edges, but the impact of asexual reproduction on range expansion is largely unknown. If asexuality allows genotypes well-adapted to range ... -
Es-PACES on Mexican Campuses: Cultural Adaptation of the Physical Activity Campus Environmental Supports Audit
